Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has decided to celebrate Bhubaneswar Foundation Day for one day in view of model code of conduct in force for dual elections in the state.
The decision was taken at a preparatory meeting for the official celebration, chaired by Development Commissioner Anu Garg, in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
Speaking at the meeting, the commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Rajesh Prabhakar Patil said the capital city of Odisha will enter 76th year on April 13 when it will celebrate the foundation day. It was decided that the day will be celebrated with due honour and dignity but the functions will be held with austerity in a limited number due to the code of conduct.
As part of the revised programmes, the celebration will be confined to one day instead of usual three days. Prominent guest will offer bouquets and garlands at the plaque of the Bhubaneswar foundation day in front of the Legislative Assembly in the city.
Due to prevailing heatwave, the civilian parade by the students will not be held at the place. However, Odia Language, Literature and Culture department will organise a cultural programme at Jaydev Bhawan in the evening.
