Bhubaneswar: In a bid to live up to the expectations as the Sports Capital, Bhubaneswar is gearing up to put civic amenities in place ahead of the Hockey World Cup scheduled to begin in the month of November.
In a meeting convened by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, it was decided to start 50 standard AC and 50 non-AC buses while renovating and constructing bus depots at Patrapada, Patia and Pokhariput.
“City Bus services will start, free Wi-Fi points in different places of the city in the next three months will be activated and underground cabling work from Sishu Bhawan Chowk to Ram Mandir will be completed before the World Cup,” the Chief Secretary said.
A foot over bridge has been decided to be constructed near Kalinga stadium for smooth movement of traffic during the matches.
The Chief Secretary also directed to provide WiFi at important points with 75 locations and 300 access points, including the places in and around the stadium.
To boost tourism prospects in the state, tourist spots at several places will be equipped with basic infrastructural needs.
