Bhubaneswar Hottest In Odisha At 39°C By 11.30AM; Check IMD Forecast For Today

Bhubaneswar: With heatwave prevailing across Odisha amid thunderstorm activity at certain pockets, Bhubaneswar recorded the highest maximum temperature of 39 degree Celsius by 11.30 am on Tuesday.

Jharsuguda logged 38.4 degree Celsius followed by Sambalpur at 38.2 degree Celsius, Hirakud at 37.4 degree Celsius, Chandbali at 36.6 degree Celsius and Keonjhar at 36.4 degree Celsius, according to the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here.

The MeT office has forecast no large change in the day temperature in the next 4-5 days while the day temperature is likely to soar to 42 degree Celsius and more at some places in interior Odisha districts – Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Jharsuguda and Bargarh.

It has also predict that the mercury may touch 44 degree Celsius at Sambalpur and Jharsuguda on Tuesday (May 23). Thunderstorm with lightning is also likely at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Light to moderate rain may also occur at a few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and and at one or two places in rest of Odisha on the day.

 

Notably, Sambalpur was the hottest place registering a temperature of 43.3 degree Celsius on Monday when the mercury soared past 42 degree Celsius at 11 places in the state.

The coastal belt is also witnessing a sudden drop in the mercury level late afternoon with sea-triggered cooler wind making the evenings pleasant after a sultry day. The IMD has attributed it to southerly wind and moisture in the environment in the evening.
