Bhubaneswar MP On Way To Meeting Faces Protest By Women Residents

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi faced protest by women while going to a meeting in a colony of the city on Monday evening.

According to sources, the residents of Buddheswari Colony in the city had invited the BJP MP to the meeting to discuss various issues. While Sarangi was going in a car, some women stopped her vehicle and staged a demonstration.

The women, who claimed to be residents of Buddheswari colony, said they had come to protest the MP’s negligence to their area in the last 5 years. But one of the supporters of Sarangi accompanying her misbehaved with them, they alleged.

As the BJP workers and the MP’s supporters opposed the protesting women, a minor scuffle ensued between them. However, the police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

After the protesters were dispersed, the police accompanied Sarangi safely to the venue where she held the meeting with the residents.

Later, speaking to the media, the MP said, “I was going to discuss the problems of the residents of Ward 43 on their invitation when my car was detained by 3-4 persons for two hours. My office is open to everybody and if anybody has any problem, he can always take it up with me. I have requested the police not to take any action against those who created disturbance as they are also voters of my constituency.”

Sarangi further said, “I have been elected as MP from Bhubaneswar constituency due to the support and love from its voters, not for mercy of the state government. It is the responsibility of the government to provide security to me.”
