Bhubaneswar: Police have claimed to have cracked the alleged murder of a woman, whose body was recovered from a toilet of Dhanbad-Bhubaneswar Express train after it arrived at Bhubaneswar railway station on April 20.
The woman was allegedly murdered by a married man, whom she had befriended on Instagram, police sources said.
Briefing the media in Cuttack on Friday, GRP officers said Sudhansu Pradhan of Dhaugaon in Ganjam district had developed an illicit relationship with the victim, Suman Kumari of Ranchi, and the duo tied the knot on March 14 this year. The couple, however, fought regularly thereafter. The accused then persuaded the victim to visit his hometown, saying that he wanted to introduce her to his family. A heated exchange broke out between them during their journey and he then murdered her. The accused then fled with the victim’s bag and mobile phone. He kept the mobile phone but disposed of the bag.
The woman’s postmortem report had revealed that she sustained stabbing injuries on her neck. The GRP had earlier put up posters in an effort to establish the identity of the deceased. The victim and the accused were later identified after examining the list of the passengers who had travelled in that coach.
Pradhan, who worked as an embroidery designer at a garments factory in Gujarat’s Surat, was arrested by Bhubaneswar GRP on October 23. Search is on to locate the murder weapon.
