Bhubaneswar Police Take ‘Dulhe Raja’ On 2-Day Remand; Dairy Seized, Financial Probe On
Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday took Satyajit Managovind Samal, the conman arrested for allegedly duping several women on the pretext of marriage, on a two-day remand.
The Capital Police had prayed the court for 10-day remand of the accused but was allowed to interrogate him for two day in custody, according to sources.
Meanwhile, police have seized a diary, containing names, addresses, contact numbers and other details of several women, from the residence of the accused. He was staying at Chandrasekharpur in the city.
Besides duping two women in Bhubaneswar and another two in Kolkata and Delhi, the 34-year-old man from Jajpur district was allegedly wooing 49 women on a matrimonial site under different identities. He mostly targeted divorcee and separated women and took money. He was arrested on August 3 after being trapped through an operation, ‘Dulhe Raja’, in which a woman police officer, acting as a ‘prospective bride’, compelled him to return to Bhubaneswar from Dubai, where he used to flee after duping his victims.
He duped a working professional of Rs 36 lakh (27 lakh cash and Maruti Baleno worth Rs 8.15 lakh) and took Rs 8.60 lakh and a Royal Enfield Interceptor bike worth Rs 3.50 lakh from another woman in Bhubaneswar.
Investigation also revealed he had married two other women based out of Kolkata and New Delhi and had taken one car each from them. He then rented out those cars to travel agencies and made easy money. Marriage certificates were also recovered from the two women.
The accused impersonated as a pilot of Riyadh Air, sales manager at Costa Coffee, Saudi Arab, CBI inspector and inspector Rahul of Delhi Crime Branch while targeting his victims.
Police have managed to get account details of the accused and are conducted a detailed investigation regarding his financial transactions. Efforts are also underway to ascertain if he owned any landed property.
