Bhubaneswar Pounded By Heavy Downpour; Waterlogging In Many Places
Bhubaneswar: Heavy downpour coupled with thunderstorm pounded Odisha capital and nearby areas on Wednesday, disrupting normal life in several places.
Following heavy rainfall for around an hour this evening, several areas of Bhubaneswar encountered severe water-logging and disruption in vehicular movement.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in a Nowcast Warning, has forecast rain along with thunderstorm and lightning for Bhubaneswar and Cuttack by 7 pm.
Low lying areas were submerged with water in several parts of the capital city. Areas like Nayapalli, Acharya Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Baramunda, Behera Sahi, Rasulgarh and Jagamara were severely affected, sources said.
Apart from traffic jams and water-logging, some parts of the state capital also faced disruption in supply disruption. Many vehicles were seen stranded on both sides of the roads under several fly-overs in the city.
The road facing Iskcon temple in Nayapalli area and other locations were waterlogged after downpour. Several vehicles were found submerged with deep water.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warning about rain, thunderstorm and lightning in some parts of districts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Deogarh, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, and Nayagarh by 7 pm.
People are advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strike.
