Bhubaneswar Records 32°C By 8.30AM; Heatwave Alert For 7 Odisha Districts Today

Bhubaneswar: A day after recording the highest temperature of the season so far at 42.7 degree Celsius, Bhubaneswar on Wednesday saw the mercury soaring to 32 degree Celsius by 8.30 am.

At least 29 stations recorded over 40 degree Celsius on Tuesday  with Jharsuguda & Baripada (44.2) along with Hamirpur in east Uttar Pradesh being the hottest place in the country. Baripada was six degree hotter than normal while Jharsuguda recorded 3.8 degree more than the average day temperature.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD). heatwave conditions continued as an anti-cyclonic circulation over central India did not weaken as expected. Also there was no sign of any relief for next two days.

Meanwhile, the regional Met office issued heatwave warning for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur and Boudh districts on Wednesday. It has also predicted thunderstorm and lightning for some places in the state between Thursday and Saturday under influence of an approaching western disturbance.

The weatherman said that Odisha may see a slight drop in the mercury level if thunderstorms occur.

All schools and Anganwadi Centre for Class I up to Class XII have been shut till April 20.
