Bhubaneswar: The Odisha capital recorded above normal temperature on Thursday morning, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Bhubaneswar has seen a 3.1°C increase in the mercury levels from 11.9°C on December 23, 13.4°C on December 24 to 15°C on December 25. The neighbouring Cuttack, on the other hand, recorded 13.6°C for the second consecutive day.
Semiliguda in Koraput district was the coldest place in the state at 6.1°C. Koraput saw a sharp drop of 5.9°C from normal to record a minimum temperature of 6.8°C. The other places where mercury plummeted below 10°C include Daringbadi and Phulbani in Kandhamal district at 7°C each, G Udayagiri, also in Kandhamal, at 8.4°C, Rourkela at 8.5°C, Nabarangpur and Jharsuguda at 8.6°C each, and Bhawanipatna at 9.2°C.
Very dense fog blanketed Nayagarh and Dhenkanal this morning, reducing visibility to 50 metres. Dense fog also occurred in Paradip, Bhubaneswar, Khurda and Phulbani and moderate fog in Koraput and Bhawanipatna.
The weather agency has warned of dense fog in five districts of Odisha till December 30 morning. Dense fog may occur during early morning hours at isolated pockets in districts of Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Khurda, Dhenkanal and Koraput on December 26-27. A similar warning has been issued for Sundargarh, Kandhamal and Koraput during the subsequent 3 days.
Shallow to moderate fog is also likely during early hours at isolated pockets in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Sundargarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Balangir and Ganjam during this period.
