Bhubaneswar Set To Break 63-Yr-Old Rainfall Record In September?

Bhubaneswar: Even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday forecast more rain in Odisha under the influence of low pressure over Bay of Bengal in next three days, the capital city received 14.2 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on the day.

In its evening bulletin, the IMD said Bhubaneswar received 119.1 mm rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Saturday. During 24 hours till 8.30 am on Sunday, the city registered 14.2 mm rainfall, it added.

The Met office forecast that if the rain continues with same intensity throughout the night, it will break the 63-year-old record of 163 mm rain registered on September 9, 1958.

Meanwhile, the IMD said the well-marked low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal is very likely to concentrate into a depression over north Odisha and West Bengal coasts during next 12 hours.

Heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall across Odisha is likely under the influence of the system till September 14, the IMD forecast.
