Bhubaneswar Tenant Assault Case: Odisha Police In Delhi To Trace Two BJP Leaders
Bhubaneswar: A five-member team of the Commissionerate Police arrived in New Delhi on Sunday to trace two BJP leaders in connection with the murderous assault on a tenant in Nayapalli area of the city on March 16.
As informed by the IIC of Nayapalli police station Sarat Sahu, the team has begun the search for the two BJP leaders, Upasna Mohapatra (daughter of former Congress leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra) and Sarada Pradhan alias Bulu, the BJP leader of Mahanga in Kendrapada. They have taken shelter in the house of a senior BJP leader, according to intelligence sources.
While the police have arrested 17 persons in the case, three persons including Upasna, Bulu and Sagar Ray, a builder, are still at large.
According to a complaint lodged by Pranab Ray at Nayapalli police station, he was staying on rent in the house of Bijay Kumar Nayak in the N/3 area of IRC Village in Nayapalli for some years. During his stay, Nayak mortgaged his house and obtained a bank loan for which he had taken some money from him in advance.
After some months, Nayak told Pranab that he will sell his house. With an intention to purchase the house, Pranab had spent lakhs of rupees in the interior decoration.
However, trouble started when Upasna and her husband Shubhranshu Sekhar Biswal asked Pranab to vacate the house. After Pranab refused, the couple, accompanied by a group of youths, arrived at the house in the night of March 16 and severely thrashed him.
Following the incident, the Nayapalli Police arrested 17 persons on the basis of the complaint lodged by Pranab.
