Bhubaneswar: Kumud Mishra’s popular Hindi play ‘Purane Chawal’ is set to entertain the audience at Rabindra Mandap here on October 5.
‘Purane Chawal’ is the Hindi adaptation — by Farrukh Seyar and Avinash Gautam — of English play ‘The Sunshine Boys’.
Directed by Sumeet Vyas and produced by D For Drama Company, the play features Kumud and Subhrajyoti Barat in pivotal roles, and is set in modern Mumbai.
The play revolves around two retired comedians, who are brought together after 12 years for the biggest comedy festival in the country. What makes the play interesting is that the two comedians can’t stand each other.
Kumud has featured in Hindi films such as ‘Rockstar’, ‘Raanjhanaa’, ‘Sriram Badlapur’, ‘Sultan’, ‘Airlift’, ‘Rustom’, ‘Article 15’, ‘Lust Stories 2’, among others.
Subhrajyoti has performed in the Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Article 15, and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
The event is a part of the annual fundraiser organised by popular charitable organisation Zain Foundation Trust (ZFT).
The funds from the event will be used to support people with autism spectrum disorder.
Formed in 2015, ZFT has carried out several awareness programmes through workshops, rallies, sporting events, art exhibitions etc., both in the state and across the country to raise funds for the autism community.
ZFT has also started a novel initiative called the PECS Café. The cafe was opened to train adults with autism, to make muffins, cookies, pound cake, sandwiches, and lemonade from the word go.
