Bhubaneswar: The KIIT and KISS Deemed University on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU) to promote rugby at grassroots and the high-performance levels.
As per the MoU, KIIT-KISS will be the associate sponsor of Rugby India for next three years while the state government remains the main sponsor. With this, KIIT-KISS has become the only university in India to be the associate sponsor of Rugby India.
Achyuta Samanta, founder, KIIT & KISS and Rahul Bose, president, IRFU signed the MoU on behalf of the respective organisations. Three coaches and selectors of the Indian National Rugby 15s teams – Naas Botha, Kiano Fourie and Andre Venter were present.
As per the agreement, the partnership will entail KISS & KIIT making available its facilities for conducting camps and competitions, for the preparation and training of the teams in connection with their participation in international tournaments and ‘test’ matches.
KISS has been promoting Rugby since 2004 with Samanta playing a key role in this regard.
