New Delhi: In a departure from lengthy question papers, CBSE has decided to reduce the number of questions in 2020 in both Class X and XII Board examinations. Besides, all subjects will have either practical or internal assessments.

In the Class XII Mathematics paper, for example, students could be asked to solve only 12 questions as against 19 asked in 2019. Besides, a candidate will have more options to choose from among the questions, the Times of India reported.

There will be more objective type questions of one mark each in each paper both in Class X and XII.

According to the TOI report, internal assessment and practical tests will carry 20 marks while the external examination will carry 80 marks.

As reported earlier, there will be separate exams for the Class X Maths paper — basic and standard.

Question pattern for Class X in 2020:

The number of objective type questions will vary from paper to paper. While in Science and Maths papers, 25 per cent of the questions will be of objective types, in English, 35 per cent and in Sanskrit 95 per cent of the questions will be of objective types. The number of descriptive questions is expected to remain the same.

Question pattern for Class XII in 2020:

The number of objective type questions will range from 25 per cent in English core and Mathematics paper to 40 per cent in the Biology paper. The internal assessment/practical marks will carry 20 marks. The number of descriptive questions could come down marginally.

The objective of the entire exercise is to discourage the students from rote learning, the TOI report said.

The exams are set to begin from February last week.
