New Delhi: In one of the biggest recruitment drives in the higher education sector in recent times, all the central universities, except one, have advertised openings for over 5,900 teaching posts.
They include the Central University of Odisha (CUO) in Koraput, which has advertised for 81 teaching posts.
Professor 14 posts
Associate Professor 25 posts
Assistant Professor 42 posts
The last date for applying is September 16.
According to media reports, the total number of vacancies for which recruitment will be conducted across 39 central universities stand at 5,926. The only exception will be the Central University in Allahabad where the vice-chancellor is facing a probe.
The process for filling up the posts could take about two-three months, following which there might be a second round of recruitment drive. As per the HRD Ministry, 6700 posts in all 40 central universities will be filled up by the end of this financial year. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked the vice-chancellors for a status report on the ongoing recruitment drive.
The issue of large-scale vacancies was raised by members cutting across party lines in the just-concluded Parliament session.
BJD Rajya Sabha MP Prasanna Acharya had regretted that the Koraput campus was operating without a single professor since its inception.
Koraput MP Saptagiri Ulaka had also written a letter to HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal drawing his attention to the sorry state of affairs.
“It is the only university in India where there is no single professor,” he had lamented.
