Paradip: Police have arrested a youth from Bihar in connection with the mysterious death of a Plus III student in Odisha’s Paradip city.
The naked body of the young woman, who hailed from Kolar village under Tirtol police limits in Jagatsinghpur district and had reportedly been missing since Sunday, was found on the ground below the four-storey building in Tarinigada area of Paradip the following morning. Her family reached the police station after receiving a call last night from her phone seized from the spot and identified the body, which was then sent for postmortem.
It is being suspected that the young woman was sexually assaulted and murdered before being thrown off the building. Her undergarments were found inside the house with blood splattered across the walls. The mobile phone was found hidden on a kitchen ledge in another part of the building.
Besides the youth from Bihar, his two other roommates – one from Uttar Pradesh and another from Odisha – have also been detained for interrogation. The accused worked as a labourer for a local company and was living on rent in a four-storey building.
According to sources, the young woman had visited Sarala Temple earlier that day accompanied by a male friend. Following a heated argument with him, she parted ways and was later seen alone along the Cuttack–Paradip road, where she accepted a lift from the accused. When investigators powered the victim’s phone back on, an incoming call from her brother provided crucial information that ultimately helped confirm her identity.
Police are examining CCTV footage and witnesses to piece together the circumstances leading to her death.
