Bike-Lifting Gang Busted With Arrest Of 3; 20 Motorcycles Recovered In Bhubaneswar
Bhubanswar: The Commissionerate Police has busted a gang of vehicle lifters by arresting three persons from Bhubaneswar and recovering 20 stolen two-wheelers from their possession.
Giving this information, Commissioner of Police Soumendra Priyadarshi told reporters in Bhubaneswar that the seizure was made during investigation into a complaint regarding theft of a Honda Activa of a resident of Nayapalli area from Jayadev Vihar recently.
During investigation by Nayapalli Police, involvement of a known criminal Akash Pradhan alias Sonu was verified first and he was apprehended. His associates Kedar Behera and Tapan Behera were also apprehended as part of the probe, he said.
A total of 20 two-wheelers vehicles, including the one stolen from Jaydev Vihar, were recovered from the trio.
Further investigation showed that the three have committed series of motorcycle theft from different areas of Bhubaneswar including Nayapalli, Chandrasekharpur, Tamando, and Laxmisagar. They have also stolen vehicles from Khurda and Jharsuguda districts.
The three were arrested and forwarded to the court. Further investigation is under progress and remand report will be submitted against them for further investigation, the Commissioner said.
Akash Pradhan is involved in more than 20 cases in different police stations in Bhubaneswar and steps are being taken to book him also u/s- 110 CrPC as he is a habitual offender, he said.
With this, a total of 57 motorcycles have been seized by Bhubaneswar police in the month December- 2023 so far. Capital Police has busted a two- member bike lifting racket targeting bike parked near hospital & park areas on December 2 with the seizure of 14 motorcycles from their possession followed by seizure of 23 bikes by Khandagiri police from 3 membered bike lifter gang.
