A senior official told PTI that the bag contained ‘onion bombs’ and other firecrackers which exploded after falling on the road.
An ‘onion bomb’, shaped in round or bulbous form resembling an onion, produces a powerful sound and emits a sudden flash and smoke, similar to a small dynamite blast.
The rider died at the spot, while the pillion rider and two nearby pedestrians were injured, and rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment.
According to police, impact of the blast was so severe that the legs and other body parts of the two-wheeler rider got dismembered.
CCTV footage of the explosion showed some persons running away with dust engulfing the area.
According to NDTV, the bombs fell off and exploded as the bike hit a pothole near a local temple.
