Bhubaneswar: The culling of chickens continued for the second day in Bhubaneswar by the staff of the Animal Resources Development (ARD) department.
According to reports, culling is underway in the research poultry farm inside the Odisha University of Agriculture Technology (OUAT) and within 1 km radius of the university.
Informing the media, a senior ARD official said five Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) are checking the chickens within 10 km radius of OUAT to detect any symptom of bird flu.
He said the seven RRTs had culled 915 chickens, seven ducks and disposed of 4600 eggs and about 23 quintals of chicken feed in a huge pit dug inside the OUAT farm.
Stating that the ARD Department has provided compensation to the people for culling the chickens they had kept in their house, the official said that it will begin outside the 1 km radius of OUAT very soon.
Meanwhile, the forest officials collected the blood and excreta samples of the birds inside the Nandankanan Zoological Park on Wednesday. The sample will be sent to National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal for tests.
On Monday, samples of some migratory birds were also collected from Nalabana area in Chilika Lake.
