Bhubaneswar: A lioness died of snakebite at the Nandankanan Zoological Park, on the outskirts of Odisha’s capital, on Saturday, zoo authorities informed.
According to sources, African lioness Ganga aged 15 years was bitten by a poisonous snake on Friday. It died while undergoing treatment. It was brought to the zoo from Israel in 2015. It was being kept in enclosure-30 (B).
The exact cause behind the death of the lioness will be revealed once the postmortem is conducted, the authorities added.
With this, the number of lions in the zoo has come down to 16.
