Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Tuesday announced the results of its organisational election 2025.
Pratap Keshari Deb, the party’s State Returning Officer, released the list of 18 newly elected district presidents.
Among prominent names to have been elected district presidents include Braja Kishor Pradhan (Angul), Sushant Kumar Mohapatra (Bargarh) and Jagannath Swain (Bhadrak).
The election is seen as a significant step in BJD’s efforts to strengthen its leadership and organisational structure across districts following last year’s defeat in both the Aseembly and Lok Sabha polls.
The BJP, having unseated its former ally BJD, formed the government in the state for the first time in 2024. Of the 147 Assembly seats, BJP won 78, BJD 51 and Congress 14.
In Lok Sabha polls, held simultaneously, BJD were completely wiped out as it failed to win a single seat. BJP bagged 20 and Congress 1.
