Bhubaneswar: Taking a dig at Biju Janata Dal (BJD), senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday claimed that the regional party has already become history in Odisha.
Speaking to reporters after reaching in Odisha on a two-day visit to the state, the senior leader claimed that BJD is already finished and the party has become part of history in the state amid increasing popularity of BJP.
Stating that the BJP government performing very well in Odisha, the visiting leader said that the saffron party is going to remain in power in the state for at least the next 50 years.
“BJD is finished. It has already become history in Odisha. The BJP government is working well and the party will remain in power for at least the next 50 years in the state,” the Assam CM said.
On attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, Sarma condemned the incidents taking place in the neighbouring country. No other country in the world has been able to give protection to their minorities except India, he said.
The Assam CM further stated that NRC is necessary for checking illegal infiltration from Bangladesh.
Earlier, Sarma was accorded a rousing welcome at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) soon after his arrival in Bhubaneswar.
After arrival, Sarma headed to Puri to have darshan and offer prayers at Shree Jagannath Temple in the pilgrim town.
Sources said Sarma is scheduled to attend the inauguration ceremony of the newly-built Badminton High Performance Centre (HPC) at the Kalinga Stadium here later in the day. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will attend the event.
