BJD Mayor Candidates Take Comfortable Lead In Bhubaneswar & Cuttack; No Victory Procession Without Permission
Bhubaneswar: While BJD has won the Mayor post in Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) with Sanghamitra Dalei defeating her nearest BJP rival Sabita Suar by a margin of 20, 286 votes, the party candidates have established a comfortable lead in the elections to this post in two other municipal corporations – Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

After the 24th round, BJD candidate Subash Singh is leading by 71,015 votes while Congress candidate Giribala Behera has secured 45,400 votes and BJP candidate Sritam Das has got 25,856 votes.

Notably, Bhubaneswar had seen a voter turnout of 50 per cent while it was 65 per cent in Cuttack when elections to 109 Urban Local Bodies were held on March 24. And it is for the first time that denizens of these cities voted to elect their Mayors.
With results likely to be announced anytime soon, Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Das on Saturday reiterated the restrictions on victory procession by the winning candidates. He said appropriate legal action will be taken if such processions are carried out without permission.
