Balasore: Chairman of Nilagiri NAC in Odisha’s Balasore district lost his post after a no confidence against him was passed on Friday.
According to sources, the councillors of the NAC had filed a complaint with Balasore collector against its chairman Ambika Das accusing of him of irregularities in discharging his duties.
They had sought to move no confidence motion to remove him from his post. The Collector had scheduled September 27 for the council meeting to move no trust motion.
During the meeting on the day, 10 out of total 13 councillors in the NAC voted in favour of the no-confidence motion against Das, one against it and two abstained from voting.
Now, the opposition BJP in the council may stake its claim to the chairperson’s post.
It may be noted that in the last election to the NAC, BJD leader Santosh Khatua was instrumental in ensuring victory for his party. But the BJD did not allot party ticket to him in the last Assembly elections and he joined BJP. Khatua mobilised his supporters and was elected as MLA.
After his election as MLA, Nilagairi NAC has been witnessing constant turmoil with BJP councillors raising various issues against ousted chairman Das.
