BJP Ads Influenced Six In 10 Urban Indians In Their Voting Decision: Survey

New Delhi: Political advertisements issued by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have influenced six in 10 urban Indians in their voting decision in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, according to a survey conducted by YouGov. As per the report, 76 per cent of urban Indians claim that they have seen some political advertisements around the Lok Sabha election, while only 14 per cent responded negatively.

Among those who have seen at least one political ad, 81 per cent claim to have noticed the BJP’s ads while 47 per cent have seen some ads by the Indian National Congress (INC) while only 12 per cent said they have seen ads by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The survey result further highlighted that millennials were more likely than the other generations to say they have seen an ad by Congress.

Among the platforms for seeing such ads, YouTube tops the list with a share of 67 per cent respondents. TV is the second most common destination for viewing ads (58%). However, TV is more common among millennials and baby boomers, the survey revealed.

Instagram is the next platform of choice for 43 per cent respondents, followed by WhatsApp and Meta at 38 per cent and 35 per cent, respectively. However, Instagram appeared to be a more common platform for political ads for the for GenZ while Meta was more popular among the millennials. When compared, 42 percent millennials consumed political ads from Meta against 29 per cent GenZs.

Not only are BJP’s ads most widely seen but 58 per cent of urban Indians also believe that the party’s ads are the most creative. In contrast, only 28 per cent of the respondents felt so about Congress’ ads campaigns while 6 per cent preferred AAP’s ads.

Asked which party’s ads struck a chord with the viewers, BJP came on top once again with 60 per cent respondents. As many as 27 per cent respondents felt that Congress’ ads resonate with the viewers while only 5 per cent said so for AAP.
