BJP Demands Arrest Of Odisha MP In ‘Hit-&-Run’ Case

Bhubaneswar: A day after a scooter rider died after allegedly being hit by the vehicle of Rajya Sabha member from Odisha Niranjan Bishi near Tamian Square under Patnagarh police limits in Balangir district, the BJP on Thursday demanded the arrest of the parliamentarian.

Refuting the MP’s claim that he was not present in the vehicle, Balangir district BJP president Sibaji Mohanty alleged that the accident took place while he was on his way to attend a Sital Sasthi programme. “Instead of rushing the victim to a nearby hospital, he sneaked into a nearby house. A hit-and-run case should be registered against him and he should be arrested.”

“If he was at Saitala, what was his PSO doing in the car? And why the MP is not demanding Rs 20 lakh compensation for the family of the deceased, who is also a tribal, as he had been doing in the past,” he further questioned.

Alleging that attempts are being made to protect the MP, Mohanty said that the saffron party would hit the streets if no action is taken against him.

The BJD MP had earlier told the media that he was not in the vehicle when it hit the scooter rider. “I had gone to Khaprakhol last night to attend Sital Sasthi Yatra. The accident occurred when the driver was returning to his village after dropping me home. The scooter rider was driving on the wrong side and hit my car,” he added.

Tankadhar Biswal (35) of Indapur village under Larambha police limits had died in the accident on Wednesday.
