Aska: A case has been registered against senior lawyer and BJP candidate for Hinjili constituency, Pitambar Acharya, for allegedly misbehaving with an on-duty executive magistrate and election flying squad officials.
According to sources, an argument broke out between the MLA candidate and the on-duty officers after the election flying squad intercepted his vehicle on March 28. Acharya allegedly abused executive magistrate Biswanath Behera and a police officer.
Later, Behera lodged a complaint against Acharya at Aska Police station.
Informing the media on Saturday, SDPO (Aska) Suryamani Pradhan said the election flying squad officials and the local police, while frisking vehicles near Pitala Chhak near Hinjili on the afternoon of March 28, had flagged down the car of Acharya. He took offence to it and allegedly misbehaved with them, he said, quoting the FIR.
“Acting on the complaint of the executive magistrate, Aska police have registered a case under section 353, 394, 186 and 506 of the IPC,” the SDPO added.
Commenting on the matter, Acharya said that the police had deliberately registered a case against him on the directive of the BJD top brass. “I am a senior lawyer of the Orissa High Court and aware of my behaviour. I had come to Hinjili to interact with my partymen and not to confront the police and the district administration. The allegations and the complaints lodged against me is a clear indication that the ruling government is trying to harass me as I have been pitted against their leader and Chief Minister in the HInjili Assembly seat,” he said.
