BJP Launches Mahila Surakhya Yatra
Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha on Thursday launched its 11-day ‘Mahila Surakhya Yatra’ to protest against rising atrocities against women in the state.
As a part of the campaign, Mahila Suraksha Raths were rolled out from seven prominent temples namely Sikharchandi temple in Bhubaneswar, Maa Mangala peetha in Kakatpur, Kandhuni in Sorada, Patneswari in Patnagarh, Samaleswari in Sambalpur and Chandi Mandir in Cuttack following special pujas at these temples to raise public awareness about the issue and demand appropriate steps by the state government to address women’s safety.
“The Naveen Patnaik-led Odisha government has failed to check crimes against women. In most of these cases, the victims are minor girls. Effective measures should be put in place to strengthen law and order so that women feel safe in the state”, said senior BJP leader Surama Padhi, who inaugurated a Mahila Surakhya Rath at Sikharchandi temple in Bhubaneswar.
During the campaign, a total of 450 public meetings will be held across Odisha. The campaign will conclude on May 29.
