New Delhi: While the Central government has been announcing concessions and job security to quell violent countrywide protests against Agnipath scheme, trust politicians to queer the pitch further by making inconsiderate and ridiculous statements.
BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya said on Sunday that he will give ‘priority’ to soldiers who are released after four years of service for security job at BJP office.
“When an Agniveer gets military training and leaves the service after four years, he will get Rs 11 lakh and will wear a badge of Agniveer. If I want to hire security for the BJP office, I will give priority to an Agniveer,” Vijayvargiya says in a video which has gone viral on social media.
No wonder Opposition leaders pounced on Vijayvargiya.
Delhi CM and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal asked the senior BJP leader not to disrespect the youth and military personnel of India.
Kejriwal took to Twitter to express that the country’s youth work hard day and night to pass physical test and exam because they want to serve the country by joining the military, and not because they want to work as guards of the BJP office.
Congress party tweeted that Vijayvargiya has cleared all doubts about the Agnipath scheme, adding that its Satyagrah in Delhi, in solidarity with Agnipath protesters, is against this mindset.
Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, of Shiv Sena, said Vijayvargiya’s remark trivialised the importance of those in uniform.
