Baripada: Protesting against poor healthcare services and gross apathy towards the North Odisha University (NOU), the district BJP unit gave a 12-hour Mayurbhanj bandh call on Tuesday.
Alleging that the state government was not keen on improving healthcare services and education in Mayurbhanj district, the local BJP leaders and workers picketed before the government offices and staged road blockade on NH-18 and NH-49 in Baripada in the morning. Apart from Baripada, the effect of the bandh was also felt in the remaining areas of the district.
All trading and business establishments, government and non-government offices remained closed while there was no movement of vehicular traffic in the district.
The BJP leaders have demanded setting up of a coaching centre at the NOU and filling of 220 vacant posts of doctors in the district with immediate effect.
