Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee has written to policemen and health workers saying that the state government will provide COVID-19 vaccines free of cost to all the people of West Bengal.
“I am very happy to announce that our government is making arrangements to facilitate the administration of #Covid19 vaccine to all the people of state without any cost,” she wrote.
The population of West Bengal is 10 crore and vaccinating everyone is estimated to cost the state exchequer Rs 5000 crore.
This has led to the BJP questioning the chief minister’s claims.
BJP’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya tweeted that Mamata has rushed to take credit for what the Centre is doing.
“It doesn’t stop at the CM making bogus claim that her government is providing free COVID vaccine to all frontline workers. TMC cadres are rushing to put posters which read, ‘Every person of our state to be given C)VID vaccine for free, announces Didi’,” he wrote, adding, “Shamelessness has no limit.”
