Kolkata: In her latest diatribe against the Central government, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee accused it of interfering in the state’s affairs and described the BJP’s rule as worse than that of Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin or Benito Mussolini.
Calling for autonomy to central agencies to protect democracy in India, Mamata said: “The BJP government is bulldozing the federal structure of India by interfering in state’s affairs using agencies. These agencies should be given autonomy. The saffron party’s rule is worse than that of Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin or Benito Mussolini.”
Mamata, who last year became a third-term CM after Trinamool Congress beat BJP in a high-voltage West Bengal assembly elections, also criticized the Union government over its decision to cut excise duty on petrol and diesel, as well as a Rs 200 subsidy on gas cylinders to beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
Calling the government’s move an election stunt, Mamata Banerjee claimed that only a small number of people who are below poverty line (BPL) will be able to avail the benefit.
“They (BJP) do this before any election. Only a small portion of BPL category is under Ujjwala Yojana. How will poor people buy domestic gas at a cost of Rs 800?” Mamata questioned.
