BJP, Uddhav Sena Clash In Maharashtra As Stones Thrown At Ex-MP Nilesh Rane’s Car
Ratnagiri: A clash broke out between supporters of the BJP and Shiv Sena (UBT) in Maharashtra’s Chiplun after stones were thrown at the car of former BJP MP Nilesh Rane. The police reportedly lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the crowd after the situation turned violent.
Nilesh Rane, the son of Union Minister Narayan Rane, was proceeding to a rally in Guhagar when the incident occurred near Patpanhale College at Chiplun in Ratnagiri area.
“Supporters of Rane and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Bhaskar Jadhav clashed with each other. Teargas shells had to be lobbed to restore normalcy in the area. Someone allegedly pelted stones at Rane’s car when he was on his way to attend a public meeting. BJP workers assembled at the scene, after which workers from both parties indulged in stone throwing,” said an officer of the Guhagar police station.
While several cars sustained damages, there have been no reported injuries thus far, the official also mentioned.
The Chiplun police resorted to deploying tear gas shells to stop the unrest and restore order. They have filed charges against over 300 individuals from both factions for instigating violence in the area.
In response to the incident, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that cowardly attacks like these cannot deter individuals. “The disappointment of the opposition can be seen clearly from this kind of political attack. Strict action will be taken against the culprits in connection with the incident at Chiplun,” Fadnavis added.
