BJP workers vandalize Parjang block office

Dhenkanal: Tension ran high in Dhenkanal after a group of BJP workers vandalized Parjang block office in protest against alleged irregularities in implementation of various government schemes.

Hundreds of activists of the saffron party barged into the block office and damaged furniture and stationery. Police personnel, however, stopped the agitators from entering the chamber of Block Development Officer (BDO) Basant Mallick.

“We demand immediate steps to check rampant corruption by the officials in Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and misuse of funds under different public welfare schemes. Not only that, shortage of doctors in many hospitals here continue to affect healthcare services,” a party member said.

The BJP activists had earlier organised a rally in this connection from Parjang Haat.

“Grills, AC cooling fans, window glasses and other properties at the block office were damaged in the attack,” said the BDO said.
