Bhubaneswar: Activists of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) staged a demonstration and gheraoed the office of Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP) at Cuttack on Monday over the attack on their president Abhilash Panda.
BJYM activists from different parts of the state gathered in the city and staged protest outside the office of the DGP demanding immediate steps to arrest the main accused in the attack on Panda at Chandbali on the last day of election campaigning on May 30.
BJYM vice president Sangram Patra alleged that no action has so far been taken against the main accused involved in the attack on Panda in Chandbali in Bhadrak district.
While police have so far taken into custody ten people in connection with the incident, BJYM leaders sought the arrest of Chandbali BJD MLA Byomakeah Roy accusing him of being the main accused in the incident.
They sought to know as to why the police failed to initiate action against the legislator, local sarpanch and others in connection with the incident.
Claiming that several criminal cases are pending against Roy, the BJP youth leader said the legislator and others should be arrested for unleashing violence during the elections.
Notably, Panda and others sustained grievous injuries after being attacked allegedly by BJD workers on May 30 evening while returning after election campaign.
