Bhubaneswar: The total number of the accused arrested by the Commissionerate Police in connection with the recent vandalism inside official residence premises of IAS officer and private secretary to Chief Minister, VK Pandian, has gone up to six with the arrest of a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on Wednesday.
The arrested youth, identified as Rakesh Jena, BJYM general secretary and a native of Jharpada area in the city, will be produced in the court later in the day.
The five other accused arrested by the police earlier are Balaram Khuntia, Jugal Jyoti Swain, Rashmi Ranjan Muduli, Bibhuti Bhushan Prusty and Biswabhushan Badjena have been booked under Section 307 and other sections of IPC.
On February 10, more than 30 BJYM activists had barged into the official residence premises of Pandian and the security guard. Later they had smashed the flower vases and damaged some vehicles inside the premises. They had also pelted stones and cow slurry at the main gate.
Condemning the incident, the IAS, IPS and OAS associations had met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and demanded for stern action against the culprits. The chief minister assured them of appropriate action.
