Bloody Bengal Elections: Mamata Demands Shah Resignation As Blame Game Erupts
Cooch Behar: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah after five people were killed in election-related violence in two incidents on Saturday.
The Election Commission suspended voting in Polling Station 126 of Sitalkuchi constituency in Cooch Behar district where Trinamool Congress and BJP supporters clashed against each other several times. According to Central Armed Police Force officials, four people were killed as the forces opened fire after being attacked by local residents, who tried to snatch their rifles.
Accusing ‘central forces’ of shooting down four people, Mamata said a CID probe will be ordered into the firing.
“I believe this incident is pre-planned… Home minister Amit Shah is completely responsible for today’s incident and he himself is the conspirator. I don’t blame central forces because they work under the Home Minister’s order,” the CM said while addressing a rally in Siliguri.
“Shah should own responsibility for the incident which is dastardly, cold-blooded and unprecedented, and resign,” the TMC supremo said.Trinamool Congress chief said.
The BJP didn’t waste time in putting the blame on TMC for the extreme violence.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked Mamata over the loss of lives.
“Didi (Mamata Banerjee) and her goons have become jittery seeing the people’s support in favour of the BJP. Seeing her regime coming to an end, Didi has stooped down to this level,” Modi said at an election rally.
“I urge the EC to take stern actions against the guilty in the Cooch Behar case. This violence, inciting people against the central forces and creating hindrances in the poll process would not be able to save you Didi,” he added.
