Bhubaneswar: Even as the Dussera celebration has been a lacklustre affair this year due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been constructing four temporary ponds for immersion of idols to ensure pollution-free Durga Puja.
With an aim to prevent pollution of water bodies in the capital city, two temporary ponds will be set up on the banks of Kuakhai river, one on the banks of Daya river and the fourth one will come up at Bankuala, according to BMC sources.
Meanwhile, the usual festive mood is missing among the people due to the pandemic. While the few pandals have been performing puja rituals, the competitive decoration and joyous ambience are missing.
The number of visitors has also come down drastically for strict enforcement of social distancing norms of COVID-19.
