Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested Executive Engineer, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Jagannath Pattnaik for allegedly accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
During simultaneous raids by the anti-corruption agency, Pattnaik and his family members were found in possession of a three-storey building and two high-value plots in Badagada area, one plot in Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar and two double-storey buildings in Gunupur. A farmhouse at Ranapur mouza in Balianta area, spread over 1.57 acre, was also unearthed. It consists of a two-storey building over 833 sqft land, another house (570 sqft), a fish farming pond, poultry farm and several coconut, banana, dragon fruit, guava, grapes, blackberry, lemon, red sandalwood and mango trees.
Bank/insurance deposits and investments in mutual funds amounting to Rs 80.35 lakh, gold ornaments weighing 460 gm, cash and household articles worth around Rs 7 lakh and one car were also detected during the raids. A pair of antler horns and a country-made gun were also seized from his possession.
Pattanik was arrested as he could not satisfactorily account for the assets detected. He has also been booked under Sections (9)(49)(51)of Wild Life Protection Act, 1972, for illegal possession of antler horns, a Vigilance release said.
