BMC Hikes Penalty For Dumping Construction Materials On Roads In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In order to ensure clean and hygienic condition for the residents, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has increased the penalty for dumping construction materials and demolition debris on roads.

In a statement on Saturday, the BMC appealed to the people not to dump construction and demolition (C&D) waste on roads and drains as it would hamper movement of vehicles besides causing waterlogging which would lead to outbreak of water-borne diseases like malaria and dengue.

The civic body said the people can take its help through SAFA Bhubaneswar App or helpline number 1929 for disposal of the C&D waste. The BMC would charge Rs 1,500 for tractor and Rs 3,000 for truck per trip to remove the waste.

However, the BMC warned of penalty for violation of its order. If anybody is found dumping C&D waste on public places, roads and drains, a penalty of Rs 6,000 will be imposed on him. Earlier, the penalty was Rs 5,000.

Besides, the violator would have to pay Rs 2,000 towards administrative expenses to the municipality. The BMC will also seize the construction materials, it added.
