Bhubaneswar: Following the incidents of a minor boy being mauled by a pet dog and rescue of 40 dogs of foreign breeds in Odisha capital on Thursday, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to come up with a set of guidelines for keeping pet animals in households.
According to sources, the guidelines will have provisions for the people having dogs and cows as pets to voluntarily share information about the animals with the BMC and ensure that they are taken care of. It would also promptly attend to complaints about trouble created by any pet animals for neighbours.
The BMC would have designated teams to verify the conditions of the pet animals regularly, a local TV channel quoted BMC commissioner Vijay Amrut Kulange as saying. He also appealed to pet owners to have enough space in their houses for keeping the animals and warned of appropriate action against anybody who would violate the guidelines.
The BMC would frame the norms considering the instructions of the Animal Welfare Board in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Bengaluru and Cochin, the sources said.
It may be noted that a pet dog was banished from Bhubaneswar following a complaint against its owner at Infocity police station after it allegedly attacked an eight-year-old boy.
