Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to do away with garbage dumping yard by processing the solid wastes at MCCs and MRFs.
A day after resolution of the issue of dumping yard at Daruthenga, Bhubaneswar mayor Sulochana Das on Wednesday told the media persons that at present around 500 tonne of waster are produce from Bhubaneswar on daily basis. Of the total waste, 300 tonne are being processed through 32 micro-composting centres (MCC) and 14 materials recovery facilities (MRFs).
Six more MCCs are nearing completion and more large centres will be built to process another 200 tonne of garbage per day. The present garbage dump at Daruthenga would be disposed of through bio-mining as per the direction of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). As a result, there will be no need to have a garbage dumping yard in the city, she added.
At the same time, BMC commissioner Vijay Amrita Kulange said the land has been identified to set up mega four MRFs on the outskirts of the city and those would be operational soon.
On Daruthenga dumping yard, he said at present, around 200 truckloads of grabage are allowed to be dumped there. It would be brought down 150 trucks by next month and no garbage would be sent to the area within 9 months.
