Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to provide financial assistance to Building and Construction (BoC) workers in the wake of COVID-19 lockdown.
This specific financial assistance will be executed through Odisha Construction Workers Welfare Board for workers affected by the aftermath of the global pandemic.
As per data provided by the District Labour Office, a total number of 57,069 BoC workers will benefit through this assistance. Each one of them will get Rs.1500 directly in their locality or through transfer to their respective accounts.
Ward-wise distribution is the first choice for ULB if it is a direct field level distribution.
About 1,500 beneficiaries will be given the assistance directly in the Saliasahi area of the city in the first attempt. As the area is vast and comes under four wards of BMC, ward-wise distribution may not be suitable for the purpose.
As per information shared by the District Labour Office, there is a specific identification number for each worker, along with the local address, bank details, and mobile number etc.
However, BMC will make sure that social distancing norms are followed during the distribution process.
Senior officials of BMC, BDA and BSCL will be heading different areas as per sectors distributed to them.
Importance will be given for sanitisation, announcement about location, maintenance of acquaintance, verification of Aadhar number etc.
For ease of distribution, Zonal Deputy Commissioners will execute the plan in their respective zones.
However, no distribution will be done from 1 pm to 3 pm as the temperature would be high during this time.
Besides, the information provided by the district office will be verified as this is a financial assistance, said Suratha Chandra Mallick, Additional Commissioner, BMC.
Police and support staff from the Education Department and Housing Board will be present on the occasion.
