Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday decided to restore the conservancy lanes that have turned into garbage dump yards with some even being encroached upon.
The councillors have strongly pressed for the repair and restoration of conservancy lanes at the three-day Atma Manthan workshop. These lanes are meant for facilitating utility services such as passage for cesspool vehicles, fire engines, ambulances, and other utility vehicles.
Notably, the lanes, mostly in Unit-I, II, and VI government quarters and residential posh localities such as Satya Nagar, Saheed Nagar, and Bapuji Nagar, have also turned into a haven for mosquitos.
It is pertinent to mention here that Bapuji Nagar area in Bhubaneswar will be declared garbage-free in December. A zero-waste mission has been initiated in the area under which all shop owners will have to deposit segregated garbage to the door-to-door waste collectors at a stipulated time in the morning and evening.
