BMC Warns Of Stern Action Against Commercial Use Of Residential Houses In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has warned of taking stern action against the use of residential houses for commercial purposes.

Speaking to media persons in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange said it has been found that many residential house owners have been using their buildings for commercial purposes. But they are not paying the holding tax at commercial rates.

“They have to go for reassessment of their houses through Bhubaneswar.me and pay the holding tax at the commercial rate. If they fail to abide by the BMC guidelines, we are gearing up to take tough actions against them,” he added.

Pointing out that many residents in the city were carrying out business without a trade licence, Kulange they should obtain the license and deposit the fee on time.

On the meeting on revenue collection held on the day, the Commissioner said it has been decided to hold a ward core committee meeting every Saturday to discuss the issue. Besides, matters relating to sanitation would be taken up, he added.
