Bhubaneswar: In order to give a clean look to the localities, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to do away with public dustbins and engage battery-operated vehicles to collect garbage from each doorstep.
In order to facilitate the new provision, the BMC has appealed to the people to segregate dry and wet garbage for collection. The vehicles will have two compartments. The blue compartment is meant for dry waste and the green basket for wet waste.
BMC Sanitary Expert Subhasish Mohanty said, “The battery-operated garbage collection vehicles will operate throughout the city. We urge people to segregate waste. Based on the nature of waste we will decompose or reprocess the garbage.”
In order to encourage segregation of dry and wet garbage, the BMC launched an awareness campaign. The municipal body’s Swachha Sathis carried out a door-to-door campaign on source segregation in ward-31 on Friday.
