Boat Halted By Locals In Chilika Lake Over Dispute Between Two Villages

Bramhagiri: Tension ran high at Bramhagiri area in Puri district after locals of Mahinsa village halted a boat carrying 100 passengers in the middle of Chilika Lake on Monday.

According to available information, the boat had started its journey from Satapada at around 7 am and was about to reach Janhikuda at 7:45 am. However, it was detained by a group of 15-20 locals of Mahinsa village over a longstanding dispute with Janhikuda villagers over movement of private boats.

Two buses and a car also remained stranded on the floating bridge over Chilika Lake after being stopped by the protestors, who demanded an early solution to their issues.

On being informed about the incident, Krushnaprasad tehsildar Binod Kumar Swain reached the spot and held discussion with the agitators.

After a couple of hours, the boat carrying the passengers returned to Satapada.
