Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared an inspiring story about a boatman named Pintu Mahara, who earned Rs 30 crore during the recent Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
The state government highlighted Pintu Mahara’s success in the UP Assembly and praised his bold decision to expand his fleet before the mega-religious event, which transformed his life.
CM Yogi spoke in the State Assembly about the family’s earnings while responding to the opposition criticism of the Maha Kumbh. Reacting to the Samajwadi Party’s claim that the boatmen of Prayagraj were “exploited,” he cited data in the House.
“I am sharing the success story of a boatman’s family. They own 130 boats. In 45 days of the Maha Kumbh, they made a profit of ₹30 crore… This means each boat earned ₹23 lakh. On a daily basis, they earned ₹50,000-52,000 from each boat,” said Yogi.
However, the statement was released a day after Yogi spoke about the family’s success in the Assembly.
The statement reads, “Pintu Mahara, a boatman from the Arail area of Prayagraj, earned Rs 30 crore in 45 days. His life changed dramatically with one bold decision. Expecting a huge number of devotees, he increased his fleet from 60 to 130 boats before the Maha Kumbh. This smart decision brought him great success, giving him substantial earnings and securing his family’s future for generations.”
The CM called the 45-day mega event a symbol of India’s rich heritage and progress. “We talk about Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. This event has left an indelible mark not just in India but across the world. Its success will resonate globally for a long time,” he said.
Yogi also criticised the opposition for questioning the religious gathering and said, “Only those who actively participated in the Maha Kumbh can truly understand its significance.”
Yogi also informed the Assembly that an investment of Rs 7,500 crore in the Maha Kumbh generated a record Rs 3 lakh crore in business, benefiting many sectors and significantly boosting government revenue. He stated the Assembly that the event greatly boosted the economy, contributing Rs 40,000 crore to the hotel industry, Rs 33,000 crore to food and daily essentials, Rs 1.5 lakh crore to transportation, Rs 20,000 crore to religious offerings, Rs 660 crore to donations, Rs 300 crore to toll tax, and Rs 66,000 crore to other revenue.
