Rajgangpur: Police on Saturday recovered decomposed bodies of a couple and two children from a closed house at the IT Colony in Rajgangpur in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
The bodies have been identified as Ranjit Prasad (28), his wife Kalpana Prasad Chinu, daughter Kanak (3) and an 18-month-old son.
The incident came to light when the neighbours informed the police about stench smell emanated from the closed house. Following information, police rushed to the area and broke the front door of the house in presence of a local magistrate and found the four bodies lying on a cot with their faces having turned completely dark.
Police later found a half pot of milk near the cot. Police suspect that the family may have committed suicide by consuming the milk mixed with poison. The milk pot was later sent to a laboratory for test.
The postmortem of the bodies was conducted at the government hospital in the afternoon.
According to police, Ranjit, a native of Bihar, was working as an employee in a cement factory of Dalmia Cement Ltd (previously known as Odisha Cement Ltd).
Sources in the locality said that Ranjit was earlier staying at Goalapada in Kansbahal with his parents. Later he shifted to Rajgangpur and was staying in a rented house of Pramod Rout.
The neighbours said they had met Ranjit and his family on January 9. Since then the house has remained close. They, however, said that there was no conflict in the family.
