Bhubaneswar: The body of Odia Assam Rifles Jawan Champeswar Mahakud, killed by armed militants during a combing operation in Manipur’s Chandel district, arrived in the Odisha capital on Monday morning.
The CRPF, Bhubaneswar, has taken the responsibility to perform the last rites of Mahakud, since he was a para-military force member. CRPF officers, DIG (Adm) GL Meena and DIG, GC, SK Tigga also paid homage to the martyr.
Mahakud attained martyrdom during a gun battle with the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) militants on Friday.
The youngest son of Suranchi Mahakud, he joined Assam Rifles in 2001 and was posted at Joupi in Chandel district of Manipur.
The 37-year-old was a native of Dhaurakhaman village under Rairakhol police limits of Sambalpur district.
Mahakud is survived by his wife Madhusmita and eight-year-old son Debjit.
